Why it’s important to show people gratitude

In this message, I’ll convey to you why appreciating a person for helping you is important. Because when you show people love, they don’t forget it. For example, if I didn’t thank people for helping me, I would’ve given up a long time ago. I’ve learned that saying thank you is a powerful tool because when you show people affection, it touches them.

Why I say thank you as a sign of gratitude?

A lot of people don’t mean it when they say thank you, and you can feel it if it’s not genuine. The act of appreciation is intentional, and practicing gratitude has many advantages. For a long time, I never showed gratitude, especially if it was a family member. I’d use their help without consideration, and I’d tell myself that we’re family, so their help was a given. Though, life has a way of showing me things before I crash and burn.

When I do something, and I notice that it’s not right, or I begin to question my behavior. Usually, I start to see signs of the disadvantages that come with it. So, I never used to appreciate people until one family member, I normally get help from, began to comment about people who don’t say thank you.

It’s important to listen to other people when they talk, and it’s important to learn from it. What I took from the conversation is that don’t take people for granted. A person, family member, or stranger doesn’t have to help you. But it’s what you give back, which strengthens the relationship. I don’t know if you appreciate the people who help you, but it’s an important act that shows gratitude.

How to appreciate someone for helping you

Saying thank you can be hard. Personally, I don’t like asking for help because it makes me feel like I can not succeed by myself. In 2020, and during the Covid-19 pandemic, I know that the help I received was because of the building blocks I had laid before the pandemic. Just like many people, I had to stay at home, which meant no salary. The blow of having to ask people for help left me depressed. I couldn’t believe that I had to ask someone for money to pay off some bills. But I had to set my pride aside and send that Whatsapp message for help.

What amazed me is that the people I asked help from, helped me. Prior to 2020, I had started to appreciate people. Saying thank you, and I love you became normal. I took it upon myself to give people their flowers when they’re still alive, and I started doing it. I said I love you to my mother for the first time in a long time, and I froze, waiting for her response. She replied back with an “I love you too.”

Lesson learned. If the Covid-19 pandemic happened for me without showing people affection, I can not imagine how things would’ve turned out.

Why appreciating people is an advantage, and why it helps you succeed

With money, you can buy friendships, but not loyalty. Just because someone is close to you doesn’t mean you can take and not appreciate what they give you. Say thank you because tomorrow they will look for you to find out if you’re okay. I’m grateful for everyone close to me. They help me in times of need, and I help them back. Some of the people I help haven’t learned to appreciate what I do for them, but that’s okay. One day, when their eyes open, they’ll see what I saw, and they will pass it forward.

Conclusion

How to appreciate someone for helping you is by showing them gratitude. Don’t be scared to ask for help because we all need it, and getting help benefits your life. Acknowledging their efforts shows them that their acts of kindness are seen. Be intentional, and you’ll see the benefits that come with thanking people for helping you. Remember, emotional intelligence builds empathy, and when you use it, doors open all around you.
