What does it mean to have personality disorder?

  • Clevelandclinic.org describes (DPD) as, “a type of anxious personality disorder. People with DPD often feel helpless, submissive or incapable of taking care of themselves.”

Are you afraid of making a decision in a group? Do you wait for people to choose a route that you will all take? Do you feel like your suggestions will not be considered if you suggest them? How many times were you correct, but you never spoke up?

The disadvantages of believing everything your read and hear

When you Google your feelings, the chances of finding something about it is high, but be careful because the results you get may be misleading. ‘This is my opinion…’ it’s important to understand that a second opinion matters. Merely reading about (DPD) and identifying with it is wrong. Don’t do that.

Feeling helpless is normal until you do something about it. Take action and speak up when you have a concern, suggestion, or answer. If life makes you feel like giving up this is the time it needs you to work harder.

Do you feel that you’re submissive? Ask yourself why… learn how to be confident. In some cases your behavior can be traced, so don’t diagnose yourself because what you Google may not be true.

What if I have a dependent personality disorder?

Some people genuinely cannot take care of themselves; but as long as you can do something about it — get help. Don’t be idle it takes hard work and determination to achieve a goal. Prove to yourself that you can accomplish anything and you will grow into a better version of yourself.

It’s okay to be sick. I have my own problems, just like a lot of people, but I deal with them. So get help if you have a disorder. Go to a place which can help you. Follow the guidance given by doctors. Surround yourself, where possible, with people who understand your issue.

  • Do you have a dependent personality disorder?

You’re not alone… a lot of people go through what you’re going through and they get the help they need. You’re not the first person to be sick nor the last. I have my own issues but I deal with them. No one is perfect we all need support from time to time.

If I look back at my life (DPD) does feel familiar to me… if I had known about it I would have identified with it, but I see now that what I needed was confidence building, and it wasn’t (DPD).

I knew I was confused and I needed help understanding my behavior. So, second opinions matter! Do your homework. The best advice I can give you is to ask for help. (DPD) disorder is not unusual. You can become a better version of yourself when you ask for help.

Conclusion

The most important thing you can do for yourself is to be around people who understand what you’re going through; who can relate and not judge. People who can help you, give advice, and safety. P.S. It’s important to get help because that’s the only way you can get better.
