Why I shouldn’t participate in negative talk?

The disadvantages of gossiping about people

I remember gossiping about a colleague at work named Steven, and he confronted me about it. It was a group discussion, but my workmates labelled me as the ringleader! Effectively throwing me under the bus. I learned a valuable lesson because the disadvantages of gossiping are that it always backfires. In this message, I’ll share why I shouldn’t participate in negative talk because gossiping does more harm than good.

Empathy is understanding that people don’t think like you

When I was talking about Steven and people were laughing, little did I know that someone was taking mental notes. Whoever sold me out told Steven what I said word for word. People have ulterior motives because I found the discussion ongoing, I said a few words, but Steven confronted me as the instigator. Empathy is understanding that people don’t think like you. I thought what was said in confidence stays that way, but people have ulterior motives, and keeping quiet saves you a lot of trouble.

From that point on, I keep my views to myself. I don’t talk about people because gossiping does more harm than good. It’s okay to have empathy and understand that people are trouble makers; don’t engage in their conversations. You can choose to stay out of it. Steven has a bad view about me because I gossiped about him. My actions led to this situation, and that’s why I make it a point to stay away from people who gossip.

Don’t gossip online to prevent unwanted stress

Did you know that what you comment about stays online? You may think that it disappears until it comes back to bite you. I don’t vent out like I used to because it’s a bad habit that most of us do. I know you have opinions, but emotional intelligence is all about self-control. Keep your thoughts to yourself and save yourself a lot of dysfunction. Here’s a quote by an anonymous writer who says, “Beware the quiet man. For while others speak, he watched. And while others act, he plans. And when they finally rest… he strikes.” I guess that’s how Steven heard about me gossiping. I thought it was over once the discussion ended, but while I slept that spineless person told on me.

Why is your character your passport in life?

One action can make or break you, and that’s why protecting your character is important. What do I mean by protecting your character? Who you are either leads to open doors or doors will be slammed shut in your face! The best thing to do is to practice empathy. You know right from wrong, so use it to your advantage.

Why I shouldn’t participate in negative talk?

How many points does my passport character have?

1. I don’t gossip, and people see my integrity.
2. I say no to bad things, and people respect me for it.
3. I help people and people help me back.

Remember that when you do good, it always comes back to you.

Conclusion

Why I shouldn’t participate in negative talk? One action can make or break you, and that’s why protecting your character is important. Empathy is understanding that people don’t think like you, and that’s why you have to stay away from bad people in your life. Protect your well-being, and your self-confidence will grow.
