How to discourage yourself from gossiping

Why is minding your own business important?

To be honest, I was never good at minding my own business, but I’ve learned to keep quiet. I don’t react… especially in cases where people run your name through the mud. Minding your business is an art, and learning how to discourage yourself from gossiping develops your well-being. Did you know that I don’t view peoples statuses on WhatsApp? Why? Because a quick way to ruin your day is Clickbait on WhatsApp. I find people checking every status update that comes in, and I see how it affects them.

I’m intentional. I mind my business because people bait and tease you on their statuses. As strong-willed as you are, if you’re not seeing eye to eye with someone, chances of them posting pictures on WhatsApp to intentionally hurt you is high.

Why should I practice not commenting on things that don’t affect me?

When someone speaks ill about you, and you hear about it… Do you need to defend yourself? How people speak about you is their own business. Please note that it’s not my business to worry about how you portray me. On my part, I’ve learned to be respectful, and I don’t share hateful messages about others. In time, when you practice friendship and well-being, the majority will see your actions. And when bad people speak ill about you, your daily actions will defend your character. Always keep it real, be kind to others, and your influence will grow.

How to discourage yourself from gossiping

Apart from it being impolite to speak ill about others. Your character’s built and destroyed by your actions. I know people I’ll never share information with because, good or bad, they always find ways to distort the truth. Some people love controversy, and they like to start it. “Keep quiet,” that’s what my brother advised me to do. “You don’t need to be the loudest in the room to be heard.” And after my brother’s wakeup call, I’ve seen first hand the power of not commenting on other people’s things. I live my life, I mind my own business, and I don’t engage.

Little Wayne, the American Rapper, has a verse that says, “Pray more, say less, and let God do the rest.” I love that message. The perfect way to win is by doing nothing towards others. Sometimes, it’s hard to bite your tongue, but do it anyway. You don’t need to be the loudest in the room to be heard… In time, when you practice friendship and well-being, the majority will see your actions.

Do you need to defend yourself in order to win?

The answer is no. The power of a good character fends off things you don’t even know about. Things people do against you and fail because of how you present yourself in the world.

Conclusion

How to discourage yourself from gossiping. Minding your business is an art, and learning how to stop gossiping develops your well-being. When you protect your heart from outside triggers, your character grows.
