The disadvantages of doing something that hurts you
I used to drink. I’d have lots of fun, and I wanted to drink like everybody around me, but I had bad experiences. I stopped drinking because of how alcohol made me feel. The joy was awesome, but the side effects of alcohol made me regret it. In this message, I’ll share my thoughts about the disadvantages of alcohol. Do you feel depressed after drinking? If you do, this message is for you.
Why alcohol became a disadvantage in my life
I don’t like the side effects of drinking. The vomiting, headaches, and hangovers I used to endure. I drank because it was nice, and I had good memories, but as I matured, I began to focus on my well-being. Waking up drunk isn’t a life for me. Having to nurse myself back to a point where I can work isn’t a life for me. I began to weigh the pros and cons, and after many times of vomiting, and asking myself why I was doing this while my head was inside the toilet bowl. I had to stop.
My turning point and why I decided to stop drinking alcohol
I read a book about a soldier in the United States Army who went through what I went through. This soldier used to get high, but while intoxicated, he would pray to God and ask God, “Why am I this way?” He knew he had to stop because his addiction was suffocating him. This book touched me. It frightened me because I saw the path I was on if I didn’t stop. In time, I quit drinking, and it changed my life for the better.
Do you feel depressed after drinking?
We all behave differently when we drink. Some people look like they can handle their alcohol without bad reactions. And some people, you’d wish that they never drank at all. For me, alcohol helped me interact with people, but by default, I’d overdo it, which isn’t good. I used to judge my behavior the morning after and blame myself for behaving out of character. Just like the soldier, I’d ask God to help me quit. I never liked my behavior while intoxicated, and the after effects of drinking were the worst.
If you feel depressed after drinking, just know that you can stop. I’m happy that I don’t need alcohol to live my life. It’s helped me focus and pursue my goals wholeheartedly, and when I go out, I sometimes feel like an outsider, but it’s worth it. The pros outweigh the cons, and drinking for me is something I’m glad I can do without.
Conclusion
Do you feel depressed after drinking? Just know that you can stop. I’m happy that I don’t need alcohol to live my life. Choose to stop drinking. It takes one day at a time to overcome an addiction.
