What are the disadvantages of sharing personal information online?

Whether you talk to someone who understands your issues or you use a journal to share your feelings… both options are good ways to build your character. A Diary was popular back in the day. But today, in less than 160 characters, we choose to share sensitive material which reaches billions of people around the world.

When you share personal information you’re putting yourself in a tough position because potential recruiters can see them. A person you’re interested in will definitely see them. Or an active client in your business can view your social media and assess your behavior for red flags. So don’t vent and share emotionally driven feelings on social media. Rather make use of a journal.

Why using a journal helps you avoid trouble?

A journal is intimate. You can share sensitive material, letting it all out, without compromising yourself online. Sharing is good, but it has to be done correctly. You cannot share sensitive thoughts online where the environment is hell-bent on shaming, bullying, attacking, and cancelling people who are vulnerable.

You cannot share sensitive information with people who are not ready to listen. Compassion is very hard to receive especially from people who lack empathy.

When you share with people who don’t understand how to read body languages. Gestures. Different tones in your writing. You set yourself up for failure. Most people fail to see a person who is calling out for help. So forewarned is forearmed.

When you share your feelings with billions of people, because that’s exactly what you’re doing. Your chances of getting help or receiving backlash can be measured with the 70 30 rule. Either your message comes across well, 30% of the time. Or the cancel culture which can be up to 70% of users can damage your trust in people.

Why using a journal boosts self-esteem?

Writing is good. Sharing is good. Releasing anger or lingering thoughts is good. If you cannot find help immediately or you’re afraid to approach someone. Start with a journal. Personally, journaling helped me get the help I needed. I was very shy growing up, and I can guarantee that no one would’ve read my thoughts on any social media platform.

But today I write about my past in a productive way. Sharing my experiences, and not emotions in ways which benefit people. Journaling helped me to overcome harmful feelings. Before I had the courage to talk to someone. Journaling gave me the freedom to let it all out. It was a tool I used to ask a lot of questions in my life. Questions like Why am I shy? Why am I afraid? Why am I lonely? Who am I? Will I succeed or am I destined to fail? Which eventually led me to face my issues.

Is there a journal for men and for women?

Journals are useful to all who want to reflect and express themselves. There are key benefits to journaling, and I’m sure a lot of men will choose journals with locks and keys. And that’s okay. There are a lot of journals you can choose from. Some with calendars which you can use to plan your day. Examples below:
