Reasons why it’s important to look back at what you’ve achieved
I’m guilty of this because I don’t count my blessings as much as I need to be doing. I have tunnel vision, and yesterday’s achievements are sometimes felt as insignificant. Did you know that when I write a motivational message, I sometimes don’t remember that I wrote it? I’ll read or hear a podcast generated from my motivational post, and I wouldn’t realize that it’s mine until I see the author’s description.
My tunnel vision and desire to succeed means I’m always on the move, and I don’t give myself time to look back. In this message, I’ll share how to count your blessings. Why? Because if you don’t look back you’ll forget about all the good things in your life that you have achieved.
Is it good to count your blessings?
100% yes! Acknowledging your wins is very important. For me, I was afraid to smile and praise myself because I thought it was sinful. But acknowledging your victories and taking time to look back at what you’ve achieved is one key to success.
Don’t look back for the sole purpose of judging your failures. Doing this means that you’re feeding tomorrow’s doubt and anxiety. Instead of believing in your next endeavor, your mind will tune into old pain and heartache, causing you to give up. Practice looking back and acknowledging your accomplishments.
Here are 3 things from my past I’m grateful for:
1. I chose to believe in myself and follow my dreams.
2. I chose to love myself because I used to be bad at this.
3. I chose to ask for help, which opened my eyes to a new world.
If I hadn’t done these 3 things in my life, I wouldn’t have written this message today.
How to count your blessings in life
You have a lot to be grateful for. Don’t be scared to look back and clap hands for yourself. I remember the day I scored a goal from the halfway line at school. My school soccer coach looked at me with joy, and he included me in the first team because of that day. I remember the day I bought my first T-shirt with my own money. That day was special because it’s the month I asked to work for someone cleaning out their yard, and I got paid for it. I didn’t ask anyone for money, and I did it by myself. I became an entrepreneur that day… I collected the old tools he was throwing away, and I sold them. I bought my T-shirt and I still had money leftover to spend.
When I look back… if that day hadn’t happened, I wouldn’t have found the courage to pursue more goals in my life. Back then, the decision to believe in myself became a pivotal stepping stone.
