A comforting sign

When my younger son received his vaccination against measles in May 2020, we were worried whether he would have an adverse reaction to the vaccine. He hadn’t been vaccinated as a baby. But in 2020, the vaccination against measles had become mandatory in Germany for kids who go to school. And so, he got the shot in his teenage years.

At the day of the vaccination, I stood in front of our pharmacy and looked down on the ground and saw an angel made from felt. It looked like a Christmas tree decoration item, but this happened in May. So, a Christmas decoration would be rather unlikely.

I walked into the pharmacy and asked them whether this angel was one of their shop decoration items and whether they needed it back.

No, it didn’t belong to them.

So, I took the angel home and gave it to my son. “Here, I just found this. I think it is a sign for you that you are protected and don’t need to worry.” And he felt comforted by it.

It turned out he did have some mild and also not so mild reactions to the measles vaccine, (low fever and a slight skin eruption as expected, but also several heavy nosebleeds afterwards which were totally unexpected), but luckily we were able to handle this well with homeopathy.

Throughout this ordeal, I reminded myself that all would turn out well. After all, the guidance had sent us this little angel and we had to have faith.

I like how guidance uses so many different ways to contact us and to comfort us.
