Being A Misunderstood Quiet Person

Psalm 35:20 in the Amplified Bible says, “For they do not speak peace, But they devise deceitful words [half-truths & lies] against those who are quiet in the land.”  This Verse reminds me of how people often assume foolish things about individuals who are quiet, then say them as if they’re facts.  I have experienced this many times.  Some lies are I think I’m better than others, a snob, & easily bullied or manipulated.  The only truth in all of that is that I think I’m better than one of the people who accused me of that behavior, & that is only because she is a malicious covert narcissist.

On behalf of quiet people who have experienced similar foolish assumptions & lies, I want to make it clear that we aren’t any of those things.  We also aren’t broken.  We simply prefer to take in our surroundings, listen more than speak, & enjoy calm surroundings over loud & busy ones.

One common misconception is that quiet people are shy or lack social skills.  However, being quiet is simply a personality trait that has nothing to do with either.  Quiet people tend to be deep thinkers who prefer to observe & listen before speaking.  They tend to enjoy solitude & introspection, & find small talk to be superficial & uninteresting.

While extroverts thrive on social interaction, quiet individuals are introverts which means they prefer solitude, to limit time spent with people & prefer one-on-one conversations over group settings.  They are often excellent listeners & provide a calming presence in social situations.  They dislike small talk, preferring deeper conversations.  Quiet people may have a lot to say but don’t feel comfortable expressing themselves in a group setting.

Quiet individuals are sometimes viewed as being snobbish or aloof.  This is far from the truth.  Quiet individuals can be very friendly & warm.  They are just not as sociable as others.

Additionally, quiet individuals are often assumed to be easily bullied or manipulated.  However, this is not true either.  While quiet individuals may not be as assertive as others, they are not necessarily pushovers & can stand up for themselves when necessary.

Being quiet has its advantages.  Quiet individuals can be excellent problem solvers & are very self aware.  They have a unique perspective on situations due to their ability to observe & listen.  They are also often very empathetic & can provide comfort to those who need it.

If you too are a quiet person, always remember that being quiet is not a flaw.  It’s simply a personality trait.  Instead of trying to be more outgoing or talkative, be proud of your strengths & the unique perspective that you bring to situations.

It’s also important to communicate your needs to others.  For example, if you find yourself in a loud & busy environment that is overwhelming, don’t be afraid to ask for a break or some quiet time.

Finally, have relationships only with those people who understand & appreciate your quiet nature rather than fools who not only make ridiculous assumptions about it, but spread those lies as if they are facts.

Being quiet is not something to be ashamed of or a flaw.  It’s simply a personality trait.  Don’t let the idiotic lies & misconceptions of others make you feel badly about yourself!
