At https://mhanational.org/what-emotional-intelligence-and-how-does-it-apply-workplace we can find a definition of emotional intelligence. Here it is:
“Emotional Intelligence (EI) is the ability to manage both your own emotions and understand the emotions of people around you. There are five key elements to EI: self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy, and social skills.”
Apart from the above quote there is also this passage:
“People with high EI can identify how they are feeling, what those feelings mean, and how those emotions impact their behavior and in turn, other people. It’s a little harder to “manage” the emotions of other people – you can’t control how someone else feels or behaves. But if you can identify the emotions behind their behavior, you’ll have a better understanding of where they are coming from and how to best interact with them.”
So we can see how important emotional intelligence is in personal and professional life. The subject of emotional intelligence is of interest to many people because ‘having’ this form of intelligence makes life easier, calmer and happier. Personally, I intend to educate myself on the subject of emotional intelligence, as it will make my life easier (both in my family and at work). Emotions are present in us every day, it is important that we know how to recognise them and respond to them appropriately.
From time to time I will share my findings in this area here. Dare to live. It’s YOUR life.
