I’ve had the privilege of working various jobs. As a boy, I worked selling newspapers. I’ve cleaned out garages, and I’ve done an auto electrical apprenticeship, which was a decision I made when my grades limited me to advance in school. I worked as an auto electrician for 2 years, and I quit to go back to school and pursue my dream.

I got my marketing diploma, got a job, left the job, and moved into a different career. My journey has been good, challenging, and messy, but all in all, I’ve learned a lot, and I’ve experienced a lot. I know how difficult 3 kinds of careers can be and why I chose to develop myself and pursue my dream. I’ll share my mental health experience as I grew into a man.

The mental health impact I had going into my first job as a young man

I was a slow learner, which made me fail a lot at school. When my friends were advancing in school, I had to find a job that required fewer qualifications, and I went into repairing cars. What caught my eye to become an auto electrician is one encounter I had with a professional mechanic. One day, when my sister’s car was stuck on the road, she called an auto electrician for assistance.

The guy came wearing good clothes, red sneakers, and a baseball cap. The guy was clean, and he was an auto electrician. In less than 15 minutes, we were on our way. The dude told my sister that he would send the bill on Monday and off he went. I was blown away because he used his mind to solve an electrical problem and he got paid good money for it. Long story short, after 2 years, having completed certification, and worked, my mental health was affected by how the rat race lifestyle was difficult to manage.

What job has the worst impact on mental health?

As a young man working while my friends were at school, it affected me mentally and emotionally. knowing that my friends were advancing and will soon be earning good money because of the degrees they were pursuing. I got to see early how education and the rat race can ruin your life if you’re not strong. The rat race is a toxic lifestyle. You chase money, but it will never be enough. You work long hours, and you don’t have a social life. I was amazed by how the men I worked with managed to find love and get married. The time for leisure is too small, and how do you grow your relationship if you’re always at work. I knew that I had to get out of the rat race because I wanted freedom and more options.

How my mental health developed as I grew into a man

I’m thankful today that I went through what I went through as a young man. I got to earn money quickly, and I got to understand budgeting quickly. Something schools don’t really teach you. My mental health has gone through many changes, but because I was eager to learn and ask people for assistance, I managed to overcome what others failed to control. Their mental health.

If you don’t understand yourself, like a lot of people; I chose to resign from three different jobs and pursue my dreams. Don’t die in the rat race cycle, especially if you have a goal you want to achieve. I could’ve been those employees who work and live in the rat race cycle, but I want more. I want freedom, and I want to live my life knowing that I choose the road I walk on regardless of the ups and downs.
